This sculpture was created to remember Thomas MacDonagh who was a signatory of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. He was executed in 1916 and this memorial was commissioned as a part of the 1916 Uprising Centenary. He is depicted holding the proclamation and viewers can stand beside the statue and read the document. Thomas MacDonagh was also a teacher and a poet and I have tried to portray a thoughtful man. The statue was unveiled by his grand daughter Muriel McAuley. Location - Cloughjordan, Co. Tipperary. Lifesize.
